The Overt Narcissist - Narcissistic Personality Inventory Modified

There are two major styles of narcissists. The first are the classic boasters. The second are the quiet ones who are hurt and offended by just about everything. You may know the first one as the braggart at the office coffee pot. She may also be the chick at the gym whose eyes never leave her own reflection. This quiz is about the first type.

This quiz is a modified version of the Narcissistic Personality Inventory. I have made changes where I have found the statements unclear. I also changed it so that each statement's responses are in degrees of how true they are. Most statements are not completely true or false for anyone.

As you take the quiz, please answer in terms of how well the statement fits you or how often your thinking fits with the statement.

Like most things, narcissism is a continuum. To one side, you have those who fully embrace self awareness and self compassion. Their self-worth is built on knowing their strengths and their weaknesses. On the other end, there are those who lack an internal sense of self-worth. They compensate for this emptiness in them self asserting a false self image, by controlling others, and through abuse.

Most people fall someplace in between.

However, we all can grow and change over time. After the quiz, I have added links to resources both about self improvement and about recognizing when someone else in your life is narcissistic.
