Greece is officially the Hellenic Republic. It is located in Southeastern Europe. The country has both a part on mainland Europe and many islands.
The total population of Greece is 11 million. Most of the population is native born Greek (93%).
The major ethnic groups are Greek (93%), Albanian (4%), Bangladeshi (0.7%), and Bulgarian (0.3%).
The most spoken language is Greek Orthodox (99%). It’s also the official one. The others are English and French (0.1%). The population of Greece is dominated by the Greek Orthodox religion which is used officially as well. There are also some who practice the Muslim religion (1.3%) and others (0.7%).

The Hg ID is specific to this site and is used to protect the identities of those who take part in Genographic research. Birth Country, Mother's Birth Country, and Maternal Grandmother's Birth Country have been normalized from DAR database fields. The Maternal Origin is determined based on the three previous fields.
