Bahrain is officially the Kingdom of Bahrain. It is an island nation.
History
Bahrain served as a significant hub for trade and commerce in the early age. It connected Mesopotamia and the Indus Valley. The history of the former colony of the Persian Empire from the 6th up to the middle ages saw a number of dynasties superintending over it.
However, the Hellenistic Bahrain was in the 16th century seized by the Portuguese. This was a fleeting victory of the European colonists. Bahrain was usurped after close to a century of political control in the early 17th century by Abbas I of the Safavid.
Following invasions after invasion, Britain finally took control of Bahrain and ensured a number of reforms including the formation of Bahrain’s first modern school in 1919 and the abolition of slavery in 1937.
The discovery, exploration and production of oil in the early 20th century (1931 precisely) was a significant turnaround in the history of the country. It lead to unprecedented civilization and modernization of the still Britain-ruled territory. The Bahrain Airport and Bahrain Maritime Airport were built.
However, the end of the World War II led to a wave of political sentiment across the Arab world against British hegemony. That sentiment eventually collapsed Britain’s stronghold after several failed mutinies and coups.
Finally, on 15 August 1971, a referendum was held by the United Nations and Bahrain was elevated to the status of a sovereign and independent nation.

Genographic ProjectGeno 2.0 Data
Data from Geno 2.0 is derived from the The National Geographic Society’s Genographic Project — the DAR. The Hg ID is specific to this site and is used to protect the identities of those who take part in Genographic research. Birth Country, Mother's Birth Country, and Maternal Grandmother's Birth Country have been normalized from DAR database fields. The Maternal Origin is determined based on the three previous fields.
Note: Geno 2.0 results currently use Phylotree build 16. I am working on changing results over to build 17.
