Haplogroup H1e is a branch on the maternal tree of human kind. The woman who founded this line lived between 6,500 and 10,500 years ago (Behar et al., 2012b).
National Geographic Geno 2.0 Text
Age: To Be Determined
Origin: West Asia
Blurb: This branch was born in West Asia. It spread from northern West Asia across Anatolia and into Europe.
Today, this line is present at low frequencies of less than 1 percent throughout Europe and Anatolia. It is 3 to 4 percent of maternal lineages in the Netherlands. It is around 3 percent of the population in Greece and 2 percent of the population of Italy.
This line has a strikingly high frequency of almost 8 percent is some Syrian populations. It is part of some Jewish Diaspora groups, such as Sephardi and Ashkenazi Jews.

mtDNA Haplogroup H1e Data Sources
GenBank Samples
GenBank is a database of genetic sequence data. It is run by the United States National Institute of Health. It serves as the main repository for mtDNA full sequence profiles. Samples come both from published academic literature and donations from genetic genealogy community members. In addition to GenBank samples, listings below may include other samples published but not submitted to GenBank such as those from the HapMap project.
Note: GenBank results currently use Phylotree build 16. I am working on changing results over to build 17.
