Polymerase

Polymerase is an important enzyme that plays a vital role in many processes in the human body. It is involved in the synthesis of DNA and RNA, which are important molecules that carry genetic information in the body.

Discovery

Polymerase was first discovered in the early 1950s by a group of scientists led by Arthur Kornberg, who was awarded the Nobel Prize in Medicine in 1959 for his work on the discovery and characterization of polymerase.

Kornberg and his team were studying the process of DNA replication, which is the process by which cells make copies of their genetic material. They found that there was an enzyme called polymerase that was responsible for reading the genetic code of DNA and synthesizing a new strand of DNA based on this code.
