Q-M242 is the parent to all other Q branches. Its parent is P-M45.
YFull dates show that Q-M245 is between 34,000 and 29,800 years old (95% CI). This is a much older date than in older published studies, and perhaps helps explain the great geographic spread of the branches under it.
Q-M242 has two son branches. They are Q-MEH2 and Q-L275. Being such an old branch of the tree, it is unsurprising that those who belong to its lineage but not one of these son branches have not been found in modern population. However, this makes it harder to pinpoint its origin. Older literature suggests South Central Asia. More recent knowledge of its full geography suggests an origin closer to South Asia or the mountainous region that separates South Asia from the north.
