In addition to GenBank samples, listings below may include other samples published but not submitted to GenBank such as those from the HapMap project.

The Hg ID is specific to this site and is used to protect the identities of those who take part in Genographic research. Birth Country, Mother's Birth Country, and Maternal Grandmother's Birth Country have been normalized from DAR database fields. The Maternal Origin is determined based on the three previous fields.

  • My Mother’s Sister in Law and my Cousins with Chinese Name: Huang – Hokkian: Oey, Oei, Oi, are belongs to mtDNA Hg M8a3a (Geno 2.0 NG) or M8a2’3 (FTDNA). Dr Miguel Vilar from The Genographic Project told me when this Mitochondrial Haplogroup were very rare in Southern China and Southeast Asia, but this Haplogroup can be found in Central Asia, Eastern Siberia, Mongolia and Tungusic / Northern Manchuria around Lake Baikal and Amur River.

      Hey! My Mtdna is also M8a2’3 – My mother’s side is Hokkien (her grandparents immigrated to the Philippines from the Fujian province) and my mother’s maiden name is Uy. Her grandparents were adopted.
